I had the pleasure of meeting Brent back in the mid-80's when he courted and eventually married one of my waitresses at the legendary Ramada Inn in Rockville, MD. Hibrows lounge to be exact and he used to sit in with our bands and rip a tune or two. I would love to know when he will be in the area performing say Charlestown or Winchester in 2009. WE HAD SOME GREAT TIMES!!!

Back in the day, I heard good music at the Apple Pie, Bayou, Crazy Horse, Cellar Door, The Keg, The Emergency, The Shadows, The Psychedelly, Desperados, The Far Inn, American, GW Universitys and many other venues that I do not remember. Plus I hit the jazz, R & B and Disco joints in the city. I love all types of music and I had a good time doing it. And I am still doing it. Not bad for a 78 year old Black Retired US Marine and US Govt. employee. Rock on.

I worked at the Bayou in the 70's it was the best time of my life. I will never forget Cherry Smash and Brent and Tim and Fred and Barry. I will never forget what Mike said to me when he hired me. Tom Caton asked him if I was big enough and he said no but he is ugly enough.

I knew Brent when he was the lead singer for Cherry Smash in Georgetown at the Bayou where I was a bouncer, back in the early 70's. Don't know if he remembers me, but I always had fun kidding with him, he was a great guy. I remember my last day at the Bayou before I moved to Florida, Brent took me aside and said, "I've been good for you head Tony." I have no idea what that meant, but I always remembered him saying it. Nice to see old friends doing well.

OMG, I found you. LOL, kidding. I was a bayouette, so to speak back in the hey day. Remember Richard the bouncer. I was so in love with your band that I got a job as a waitress. I feel young again just reading and looking at your photos. I would love to know any upcoming dates, please provide...Reason why I found you, the Nighthawks are playing at the Accokeek Fire House on Valentine's Day and that just opened the flooded and old memory gates. Glad to hear your still together for the most part.

Take care

I used to go to The Bayou almost every weekend back in 1977-78 and Cherry Smash was my favorite band there. We all thought Tim was a guitar god - he played an absolutely smokin' rendition of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers". On a whim I started wondering whatever happened to...and did a web search on Cherry Smash and lo and behold here you guys are. Glad to see your hard work has brought you success! Hope to see you all perform sometime down in Texas ya'll!

Hi Brent,
My brother says I took him to a Rod Stewart concert at the Bayou and I think he dreamed it. I saw some good bands there (i.e., Hall and Oates, Dire Straits) but I think I would have remembered Rod Stewart. Who is right?

YOU ARE!

I heard through the grapevine that you sometimes play at Charlestown Races and Slots? My kind of place!! Although, it will be hard to get me away from those slot machines! I think I will even be able to drag Michelle up there with me, yes, still friends after all these years!! Tell me, when are you playing there?

Thanks

Well, god forbidden dives in WVA are sort of a given... Watch the calendar for where we end up next. We keep re-inventing this thing, but it always turns out good (better than good sometimes). Sorry about the record but that was before the medical profesion figured out that people like me need medication, haven't broken anything for years :)

Barry is good, been with the Hubcaps as Drummer, Marketing Director and Webmaster since the 90's.

Believe it or not the music is better than ever.

TT

Thanks Susan, come see us if you get the chance.

Hey Susan
You found us!
Great hearing from you. That was a cool Porsche that Ron had...
Barry is playing Drums with the Fabulous Hubcaps alongside our friends Jan (Nighthawks) Zukowski, and Tommy (Reasons Why) Dildy!

February 15, 2008

I can't believe it's you guys!! Remember at the Bayou, Michelle, Marcie, and Susan, following you guys from Pier 7 to some God forbidden dive in West Va. That was the 70's, Grand Hotel, Face Dancer, and of course the nights at the Crazy Horse. I want to come see you and Timmy play, and of course Mike and Ronnie, who had the cool Porche!!! This is just so cool! I am still mad that Timmy broke the original 45 that I had of Cherry Smash, in the house in Alexandria. What ever happened to Barry?

Charlie,
Tim tells us that guitar in at PRS Maryland Headquarters in the Archives, with it's brothers. Paul finally convinced Tim that it should come home to roost.
The guitar pictured above was custom made for Tim by Paul personally and is engraved to Tim from Paul Reed Smith! It is a beauty
Thanks for asking

I remember you guys from the Bayou days. Back then, Tim used to play a hand made PRS guitar, with one pickup and one knob. Does Tim still own this historic guitar? It was the first PRS I ever saw. Of course, Tim played it beautifully. Congrats on your success. Hope to see you someday!
